Area Information
ANDROS
Andros belongs to the Cyclades and is the second largest island of this complex. It is a very beautiful and special island, as it combines the rocky landscape with the heavy vegetation, thus appearing to be a small imitation of Greece. Its mountainous part consists mainly of four mountain ranges, which actually intersect the island in five separate, almost parallel, parts. Apart from mountains, there are also fertile valleys, olive groves, vineyards, areas with fruit and citrus trees. This is due to the abundance of running water found on the island. Streams, springs, some even thermal, small rivers and beautiful beaches give life to the dry, rocky part. Andros is also known for its hiking trails that date back 4,000 years. The island’s economy was mainly based on agriculture and livestock. Later the permanent residents began to engage in trade and shipping, shifting the greatest interest of the economy there. The cultural interest of the island is also great, with travelers being able to visit a variety of museums of different content. The most important is that of Contemporary Art. Access to the island is achieved by ferry from the port of Rafina.
