IONIAN ISLANDS

An island complex very different from the Cycladic one spreads in the waters of the Ionian Sea. The seven main and largest islands that make it up - which are also called the Heptanese - are Kefalonia, Corfu, Zakynthos, Lefkada, Kythira, Ithaca and Paxos. All seven, like the other smaller ones, have common features related to the location and therefore the morphology of the soil and nature but also to their almost common historical course, in terms of the influence from the various foreign conquerors.

Ornate castles, pines and olive groves, heavy vegetation that embraces the sea, sapphire waters and unique beaches with white sand and crystal clear waters, waterfalls, architecture influenced by the Venetians, all together create a character that accompanies the islands and gives them interest and natural beauty. In the Ionian Islands there are also many nature trails and water parks that host seals and turtles.

Visitors will also find many monasteries and Byzantine temples. They are also known for their cosmopolitan cuisine with special flavors. The Ionian Islands do not have strong winds, thus allowing sailing or boat rides all year round. They are generally a choice for many travelers each year thanks to their unique character, numerous options and beauty.
