PIRAEUS
Piraeus is 10 km away from Athens. It is an area belonging to the Athens-Piraeus urban complex. It has great commercial and industrial value, because it is the central port of the country, with a prominent position compared to other ports in Europe, as it has the largest volume in terms of passenger activity. It provides ferry connections to all the Aegean islands, while it also hosts many cruise ships that travel through the Mediterranean.
It has many permanent residents and is a densely populated area, in fact constituting the fifth largest Municipality of Greece. The University of the same name is located in Piraeus, with departments in technology, economics and business administration. It is an institution of international renown, in these fields, that provides undergraduate and postgraduate programs. Piraeus is a center with a large market, theaters, schools with easy access as it is served by bus lines, tram and train (ISAP).
AGIOS IOANNIS RENTIS
Agios Ioannis Rentis is a suburb of Piraeus of special value due to its location and character. Specifically, it is divided into two zones, the residential and the industrial. The second occupies the largest part of it. The residential zone is quite densely populated, since in the industrial one there are no houses. Most of the houses are located in its southern part, on the border with Neo Faliro. There are the two large squares, of Eleftherios Venizelos and Agios Ioannis Rentis, the town hall and the cafes, as well as Public Merchant Marine Schools. The industrial zone is formed by factories, large companies, industries and a huge market. Rentis landmarks are the huge Vegetable Market or Central Market that covers about 60 acres and the two major entertainment centers, Village Park and Allou Fun Park. The reason that the large vegetable market was established there many years ago is the key location of the area, as it passes through various central arteries of Athens. Petrou Ralli Avenue, Thivon Street, Athens-Lamia National Road, Kifissou Avenue and Piraeus Street. The access is easy with bus lines but also through the train station of the same name (ISAP).
ΝΙΚΑΙΑ
Nikaia belongs to the Peripheral Unit of Piraeus and is 4 km away from Piraeus. It is located near Korydallos, Agios Ioannis Rentis, Palea Kokkinia and Keratsini, while its distance from the center of Athens is just 8 km. Some know it as New Kokkinia or simply Kokkinia. It is also one of the areas inhabited by refugees who arrived as a result of the Asia Minor Catastrophe, while historically it is also associated with the German Occupation of Greece since many war crimes took place there, known as the Executions of Kokkinia.
It is a densely populated area with very good roads and easy access, as it is crossed by central Avenues such as Thivon, Petrou Ralli and Grigoriou Lampraki Avenues. In terms of transportation, access is easy, either through public bus lines, or through the metro station of the same name.
MOSCHATO
Moschato is a southern suburb of Athens and is located near Tavros, Kallithea and Piraeus, as well as at a relatively short distance from the center of Athens. It is distinguished in the residential part and the industrial zone. The boundaries for the two zones are located on Piraeus Street. In the industrial area there are handicrafts of shoes, clothes, food, ceramics and building materials. In Moschato there are two central squares. The largest is called Metamorfoseos and the other is called Iroon Polytechniou, where the town hall is located. There are many sidewalks in the area that allow easy passage of pedestrians. Access to Moschato is easy both by car through Poseidonos Avenue, Piraeus Street and Kifissos Avenue and by public transport as there are bus lines, train station of the same name (ISAP) and the tram.
TAVROS
Tavros belongs to the Southern Sector of Athens and is a connection point of the center of Athens with Piraeus. It has a very central position and is crossed by the main arteries Petrou Ralli Avenue and Piraeus Avenue, while it is also close to Kifissos Avenue. Access is easy both by car and by city buses and by train (ISAP) to the station of the same name, through the line Piraeus-Kifisia. Tavros is located near Petralona, Rouf, Kallithea, Moschato, Agios Ioannis Rentis and Egaleo. The ancient riverbend of Profitis Daniil (Prophet Daniel) passes through Taurus and ends at Kifissos. At the point where Petrou Ralli and Piraeus Avenues meet, there is a very beautiful park, with heavy vegetation, areas designed for children and courts. In the Iroon Park, as it is called, there is a Municipal Summer Cinema. Next to the park sits the Permanent Military Court of Athens.
MAROUSI
Marousi or otherwise Amarousio belongs to the Northern Sector of Athens. It is located next to Kifisia (2 km distance) and is 11 km away from the center of Athens. Other nearby areas are Penteli, Chalandri, Vrilissia and Psychiko. The center of Marousi is a market with numerous retail stores, branded restaurants, large construction and furniture stores, but also office buildings of multinational companies and financial and telecommunications services. In addition to the individual shops, there are also three shopping centers in Marousi, the Athens Mall, the Avenue and the Golden Hall. The landmark is the Olympic Stadium (OAKA), the sports stadium built on the occasion of the Olympic Games hosted by Greece in 2004. Other landmarks are the City Hall and the Art Gallery. Marousi has several permanent residents. There are mainly apartment buildings and some individual houses. The area has direct access to Attiki Odos and, in terms of transport, has a train (ISAP) and a suburban train station.
KIFISIA
Kifisia belongs to the Northern Suburbs. It is an area of special beauty and character, combining quiet neighborhoods with a very lively center. It has heavy vegetation, neat roads and luxurious houses. Many well-known politicians and important people from the fields of Letters and Arts have over the years chosen Kifisia as their permanent residence.
In the center, in "Platanos" square, there is a shopping center with retail stores, luxury hotels, branded restaurants and clubs. The area has perfect street planning and there are long bike paths and sidewalks. The Grove of Kifisia, where flower exhibitions are often held, gives it a natural beauty. Kifisia extends from Parnitha and the Kifissos river to Mount Penteli, which affects its climate, which is characterized by relatively low temperatures.
There is one of the most important hospitals in Athens, the general hospital KAT. Access to the area is easy, either through main roads, such as Kifisias Avenue and the Athens-Lamia National Road or by public transport since there is a train (ISAP) station.
AGIA PARASKEVI
Agia Paraskevi belongs to the Northern Sector of Athens. It is a large municipality with many permanent residents. It is located very close to the main arteries of the Athens network and in fact its main road, Agiou Ioannou Street, connects Mesogeion Avenue with the peripheral ring of Hymettus. It is an easily accessible area with a very good transport network both to the center of Athens and to the Mesogeia, as it has a line not only of the metro but also of the suburban. In Agia Paraskevi is located the American College Deree but also important buildings such as the National Center for Scientific Research "Demokritos" and the ERT Broadcasting House. The area stands out for its natural beauty, which is mainly due to the heavy vegetation.
DIONYSOS
Dionysos belongs to North Attica, to the wider Municipal Unit of Dionysos, which includes Anoixi, Drosia, Kryoneri, Rodopoli, Stamata and Agios Stefanos and is part of the urban complex of Athens. This is a location with a relatively high altitude (500 m.) which affects the climate accordingly. It is inhabited mainly by wealthy citizens, such as its neighboring areas, Ekali and Drosia. It is a well-kept area, with heavy vegetation, natural beauty and tranquility, features that add more value to its properties. In terms of transport, it has only one line of small city bus.
EKALI
Ekali belongs to Northern Attica, being in fact the northernmost border of the Athens Basin. Specifically, it is part of the Municipal Unit of Kifisia and is located near the areas of Nea Erythraia, Thrakomakedones, Drosia and Agios Stefanos. It has easy access to the Athens-Lamia National Road and Kifisias Avenue. This is a very neat area where wealthy citizens live.
